UNISON is Scotland’s largest public sector trade union representing around 160,000 members delivering services in the public, community and private sector across Scotland.

What is a trade union?

A trade union is a group of working people who have joined together to achieve better pay and working conditions and a safer working environment.

Trade unions negotiate with employers on behalf of union members to agree wages, work rules, complaint procedures, rules governing hiring, firing and promotion of workers, benefits, workplace safety and other policies.

In recent years, unions have campaigned for and won:

● a national minimum wage
● improved parental leave provisions
● equality legislation
● laws on reasonable working hours
● minimum holiday and sickness entitlements
● health and safety in the workplace

You can think of trade unions as your insurance policy for work.

UNISON is the trade union for all public service workers even if they work for voluntary organisations or private companies; we believe in:

People often say to us but what are UNISON Scotland doing for us . Well below is just some of the things we do ......

Every year as part of the council's budget process we put forward budgets suggestion aimed at saving jobs.

We have successfully worked with the council to maintain the no compulsory redundancy policy and protect terms and conditions.

Just last month we were successful in getting tribunal fees scrapped so that workers can enforce their rights easier.

We have and are committed to fighting the public sector pay cap.

We support our members in their time of need. Whether this be work place stress, bullying or any workplace issue.

We offer a range of discounts and free services to our members . Such as free will writing service or discounts off a new car.

We also make sure that our members voices are heard whether this be by managers or elected members.

Please like and share this post so we can let as many people as possible know what we are doing .........
