Scottish Parliament Playground Survey

A petition to Scottish Parliament public petition committee is :  Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to review and amend national legislation and guidance given to local authorities to ensure that all primary schools are required to provide playground supervision in the twenty-minute period before school starts. The Public Petitions Committee considered the above petition on 15 December 2015. At that meeting, the Committee agreed to write to UNISON seeking its view on the petition.   We have to respond by 15 January.

Carol Ball, lead of UNISON’S  education issues group would be very grateful if branches could let her know BY FRIDAY 8 JANUARY what provision is made in their schools for playground supervision before school starts each day.

• Is there any supervision before school at the moment?
• If there is provision, do school support staff undertake this duty or is it done by parent volunteers?
• If school support staff do it, do they get additional pay for it or a shorter working day or a break at another time during the working day?
• Any other comments you or your members have would be welcome, to inform the response UNISON Scotland will submit.
