Please find below a link to the latest consultation on the Scottish Government’s plans for a reform of Criminal Justice social work.  The preferred model is a new national body, provisionally called Community Justice Improvement Scotland,  allied to the Risk Management Authority, with services being  delivered locally by Community Planning Partnerships (CPPs).

The consultation will last until 02 July 2014. The new model for community justice is unlikely to be fully implemented until during 2016-17 and will require primary legislation. The current arrangements, including Community Justice Authorities will remain in place until full implementation is complete, when they will cease to exist. There is an indicative timetable in the paper.  While the local element of the proposals are welcome, there are significant powers for the new national body. The balance between national direction and local discretion may be one issue to consider. The national body will also have powers to run services on a national basis.

Here is a copy of the consultation response that UNISON submitted to the earlier consultation in April 2013.

To consider this more fully, prior to the closing date for the consultation it has been agreed to convene a further delegate meeting of staff involved on Wednesday, 25 June at 11.30 in the UNISON Offices, 14 West Campbell Street, Glasgow, G2 6RX.  If you would like to attend please email the branch office.
