The Council issued it’s draft budget proposals on 18 December it intends saving more than 32 million pounds over the next 3 years. This is to be achieved by cutting services, restructuring the Council, future efficiencies & more service reviews. Staff are already working at capacity to deliver quality services and the stress this places on everyone is already high, how will another 500-1000 job losses affect the quality of services we deliver.
We are pleased at the commitment to no compulsory redundancies but it is clear that these cuts will impact in some way on every single Council employee. UNISON is carefully considering the implications of each of the proposals and would appreciate any suggestions from our members about these or alternative savings. The Council has set formal public consultation meeting dates and we would encourage every member who can to attend.
Monday 12 January – 7.00 pm at Dalbeattie Town Hall
Thursday 15 January – 7.00 pm at Ryan Centre, Stranraer
Tuesday 20 January – 6.30 pm at Dumfries Academy
Wednesday 21 January – 6.30 pm at the Chambers, Annan Town Hall
