The Council has changed its policy on alcohol to ZERO TOLERANCE.
Every employee now needs to be very strict regarding any alcohol consumption which occurs outwith or before work. Please take great care to ensure that a sufficient period has passed to remove any level of alcohol from your system, for example; after a drink the night before work.
The new Council policy follows changes to the drink drive legislation in Scotland and indications are that it will be difficult to avoid dismissal if it is breached while at work. Unfortunately many people don’t realise they can still be under the influence of alcohol even after a good nights sleep and have no idea they are over the legal limit for driving, but this will not be considered a reasonable “excuse”.
