Dumfries & Galloway Council
Dear colleagues
At a special meeting of Full Council today, Elected Members agreed to grant an additional day’s annual leave so that Council employees can observe the National Day of Mourning public holiday on Monday 19 September, the date of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral.
This includes teachers and support staff, and all Dumfries and Galloway Council schools and nurseries will close on Monday 19 September. Private nurseries and childminders will make their own arrangements and communicate directly with families.
Essential Council services will continue to operate. Anyone required to work on Monday 19 September will receive an additional day of leave, which can be taken instead at any time during the current leave year.
Legislation ensures that part-time employees are not treated less favourably than full-time colleagues and will be entitled to this extra leave on a proportional basis if they are scheduled to work on that day.
Council policy states that employees are not entitled to recompense if absent due to sickness on a fixed or public holiday, however, those on maternity leave will be entitled to accrue this day.
Yours
