Scottish Referendum

The Branch Secretary was invited by the Annandale South Yes Group to speak on UNISONS “What kind of Scotland do we want – A Fairer Scotland” document.

The Yes Group is holding a meeting at Annan Academy on 29 May at 7.30pm and have invited UNISON members to attend. Speakers will include Jim Sillars – SNP, Ash Regan-Denham – Women for Independence, Richard Arklass – Business for Scotland and Mark Frankland – a local campaigner.

The Scottish Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament will be conducting a series of three informal seminars in the south of Scotland, in order to help scope the terms of reference for its new inquiry into issues that affect the south of Scotland.

Local Government Pay Offer 2014/15

UNISON balloted it’s member’s about the 1% pay offer for 2013/14. The ballot result narrowly agreed to accept the offer, however the employers group COSLA decided that they were extending the offer to cover a two year period including 2014/15 – this happened out-with any bargaining discussions.

Branch Update – May 2014

We have noted a number of new membership applications are being received from folk who are in serious trouble with their employer – they could and should have joined when they started their employment. Non-members usually say that the unions do nothing for them and are often the first to criticise us – until they need us.

UNISON members fought hard for the Terms and Conditions we have today but these are now under serious threat. Please emphasise the good work UNISON is doing and encourage your colleagues to Join UNISON.

CCS Management Redundancy Consultation – Trade Union/Staff response.

The proposals to further reduce the Customer Services, Arts, Museums & Events and Leisure & Sports Facilities management teams is of serious concern because the proposals are being brought for consideration as part of a three year management savings (cuts) budget process and these particular Services were the first to be restructured as part of that savings process.

Since the 13th March Executive meeting the Branch Office has supported members with the following matters;
•2014/15 Local Government Pay; The imposed 2 year pay award which UNISON rejected was discussed at the Regional Local Government meeting further consideration will be given to UNISON’s response and reported to Branches.
